I received a brief from Live Magazine. One of the branches of David Myers Opticians (the branch in Penwortham) needed some images for their upcoming advert and editorial. I didn’t really fancy just shooting the shop front, or just the frames for that matter. I wanted a fairly striking image of their frames in use.
The above image was part of a test shoot for a photographer who wanted to try the Lencarta Safari in a situation relevant to him. He’s based in Yorkshire, and intends to shoot vehicles with a great deal of control of the lighting. Most of the vehicles involved are likely to be customised, so the lighting and therefore the control of it, is absolutely paramount.
There seems to be a steady increase in interest regarding location portrait shoot. And I have to say I’m rather pleased with the shift in trend. Studios are great when the subject and intended finished image are what you want from a studio, but I find so many studio shots have a sterile air about them, and don’t bring a lot of the subjects character

The Inn at Whitewell is my favourite low light venue. Full of romance and atmosphere and a great place to work. The interior is lit in such a manner as to foster intimacy, and can be obliterated all too easily with exuberant flash users. However, on this occasion, they were in need of exterior images to promote the hotel on more than just its ambience.
Alston Hall is a government owned large country house with some rather nice features and grounds. It’s primary use has been residential adult education, with various courses available. They also provide conference facilities too, and with the current economic climate, they are being pressured to source more funding for themselves. This was another shoot for Rachel Mason of Dare to be Different, although quite a stark contrast to some of her usual work.
