Engineering Product Photography
This was an unusual shoot. Not really the subject, or the lighting etc. More the circumstances than anything.

Product photography for me, seems to attract a lot of domestic and commercial light manufacturers. This tends to be one of the types of products that’s a little more difficult to photograph in-house by an employee with an iPhone or a “nice camera”.
Marketing and PR photography. Something that tells the viewer “This is me, and this is what I do.”
Photographing a product in a lifestyle setting can bring it’s own problems. We need to remember that the model is secondary to the product, and whilst they create the desirable lifestyle our client wishes to market to their potential clients, we need to bear in mind the key points of the product.
Photographing chocolate can present challenges. If you aren’t careful with regards to lighting, the chocolate can take on an almost plastic look. Not particularly conducive to one of the world’s most renowned romantic food items.
This was part of a shoot for the Northern String Quartet, based in Manchester, but photographed at the outstanding Eaves Hall in West Bradford, Clitheroe.
Food photography depends very much on good light, and yet the textures, shapes and form can respond extremely well to quite a simple lighting setup.
I’ve often said all my photography is client driven. From food to vehicles, roomsets to fashion, products to bridal brochures, it was always to realise someone else’s vision. Which is great.
This shoot was arranged to benefit Rebecca, our model, and also Keli, the rather unassuming and very talented makeup artist.
I find it interesting how ideas can evolve. This image, for example, was a bit of a throw-away idea for the Northern String Quartet. A bit of something and nothing for their facebook page.
