I tend to draw on my wider experience for commercial work, preferring to think outside the box to produce unusual images
Sport, and in particular Motorsport, is an art form in itself. It presents specific challenges to the photographer, and that doesn’t include the demands made by the editors!

Sport, any sport, can be exciting, and the challenge is to capture that excitement in a single split second.

Even at club level, it can be very exciting and challenging

The emotional images captured during the first dance and evening reception are often the most talked about, as it’s a style of image not normally seen. We tend to be conditioned to accept the harsh, bleached look of flash pictures, which erases all evocative lighting.
I believe that to create the perfect story of your day, a mixture of photojournalism, magazine style (posed) images of Bride and Groom and detail shots are necessary.
These are all worked into a Coffee Table style album.

I specialise in low light photography, which means I am able to photograph the first dance without having to resort to flash, and therefore capture the full emotion of the evening, without bleaching the evocative lighting. This obviously depends on available light.
I find the more relaxed approach to wedding portraiture produces a compelling album, telling far more of the day’s events than the “Classic” album.
Traditional posed group shots can of course be incorporated into the album too.

This is a perfect opportunity to explore those informal posed shots. The Bride and Groom are much more relaxed with all the scary things like speeches out of the way. Quite often, this produces some of the most requested images.
I ask my Brides to be ready an hour before they leave for the wedding venue, allowing a useful time for the informal Bridal Portraits. I’ve often been told this time has helped the Bride to relax, as it takes their mind off the forthcoming ceremony

Paying attention to the whole congregation, not only the Bride and Groom, pays dividends when it comes to capturing all the finer details of the day’s events.
Ring bearers and flower girls have the most important job of the day, just ask them!
Having a second photographer, when available, means all those little things that go on in the background can be captured for posterity, when everyone else is concentrating on what the Bride and Groom are doing

We all tend to have a definite self image, a look we wish to portray. Yet seldom does it manage to transpose to printed image. Working in environments clients feel comfortable in, helps create the look and image you always wanted.

I’m frequently asked to help develop an image that’s possibly quite the opposite of a client’s character. A gentle giant want’s to be portrayed as a gangster, or a young mum of three wants to become the sexy provocative wife again.

Children can be highly challenging to photograph, but they can also be the most rewarding
Very young children are often more comfortable in an environment they know, with familiar objects such as a favourite teddy or toy

The classic images are also catered for, striving to meet the requests of the client.
